Today's testimony is from Debra Rutherford.
Geoff:Deborah is an Emmy award winning makeup artist.
Deborah Rutherford:It can be really upsetting to hear somebody take the Lord's name in vain at work.
Deborah Rutherford:Um, I often work in a secular film environment, and so that can be pretty common, although it's not supposed to be, it is.
Deborah Rutherford:Um, so the way I deal with that, one is to what?
Deborah Rutherford:Billy Graham said in one of his sermons when people asked him about when the film Jesus Christ Superstar came out And he said isn't it interesting that something like this.
Deborah Rutherford:I'm paraphrasing.
Deborah Rutherford:Isn't it interesting that Jesus is on everyone's mind so When I hear even somebody blasphemy, I do think that.
Deborah Rutherford:I think, wow, they say they don't believe, but he's on their mind.
Deborah Rutherford:And so then I say a prayer.
Deborah Rutherford:Um, if it's a situation that really needs to be addressed, then I do address it.
Deborah Rutherford:I just say, that's my Lord and Savior you're talking about.
Deborah Rutherford:I'm uncomfortable with that.
Deborah Rutherford:Please don't say that.
Deborah Rutherford:And so I think it's just important to One, lean into the Holy Spirit for discernment at that point as to how the Holy Spirit would like you to handle it.
Deborah Rutherford:Does he want you to, um, pray?
Deborah Rutherford:Does he want you to rebuke?
Deborah Rutherford:Um, does he want you to leave?
Deborah Rutherford:Does he want you to find another believer?
Deborah Rutherford:Because that happens a lot with me.
Deborah Rutherford:unsecular film work is that when all of a sudden I'm in a situation where it's just wicked, all of a sudden there's another believer right there and we're able to pray and, um, and I, that's, we always say that's completely on purpose.
Deborah Rutherford:God does that because He knows how hard it is for us going into those environments.
Deborah Rutherford:And then also, people say, well, why do you still work in Hollywood?
Deborah Rutherford:And I say, well, as a soldier of Christ, it's much like being in the army.
Deborah Rutherford:They don't get to choose where they're stationed.
Deborah Rutherford:I don't get to choose where God has stationed me.
Deborah Rutherford:So, I hope some of my tips of surviving life in the secular film and television world helps.
