Jaclyn:

Welcome Welcome to the Faith and Family Filmmakers Podcast.

Jaclyn:

My name is Jaclyn and today I've got Ron and Debra Moore with us.

Jaclyn:

Ron Moore is a pastor, evangelist, author, and radio and television personality with numerous appearances in commercials and print as well.

Jaclyn:

He's been on.

Jaclyn:

Plenty of radio shows, and we'll get into that in a moment.

Jaclyn:

And he recently married Debra Moore, who is a mental health advocate, faith based actress, screenwriter, and public speaker.

Jaclyn:

She's worked as an extra, having appeared in The Chosen as a featured extra, The Apostle TV series pilot, and many other films.

Jaclyn:

Currently, Ron and Debra have a podcast, Ron and Deb Unplugged, a show about something.

Jaclyn:

Actually, let's get into that.

Jaclyn:

Tell me about Ron and Deb Unplugged.

Jaclyn:

By the welcome to the podcast,

Ron:

well first of all, when we, were dating and first got married and stuff, um, I didn't, we, we had no idea that we had on air chemistry.

Ron:

I mean, we knew that we had the, you know, kind of good chemistry, but we didn't know we had the on air chemistry.

Ron:

and I hadn't told any of my listeners that I was even getting married.

Ron:

so, we ended up doing a Facebook live for our wedding.

Ron:

And, uh, because there are so many people who want to see it.

Debra:

And I wore this same dress that I'm wearing today, Jaclyn, in honor of that moment.

Ron:

Not, not for getting, not to get married.

Ron:

No, not to get married.

Ron:

see, I've been trying to sell a television show for quite some time now, uh, survivors in the game of life, went to Hollywood, got a pilot shot, all that good stuff.

Ron:

So after we got married, and found out that we had on air chemistry.

Ron:

I said, well, let's go.

Ron:

We can't just sit around and do nothing, let's do something, you know.

Ron:

So we said, let's do a podcast.

Ron:

so that's where They weren't really sure what a podcast was.

Debra:

Texas.

Debra:

It is.

Ron:

Right, right.

Ron:

So, so, uh, you've got that radio for so long.

Ron:

So we started this, uh, Ron and Deb Unplugged and, kind of started out teaching a little bit and sharing our lives and sharing her life especially.

Ron:

And then, uh, we had one guest on, we said, well, this pretty well, so let's have another guest.

Ron:

so now, uh, almost a year and a half later, we, uh, We've had, a guy who gets, uh, who rescues people from the Taliban.

Ron:

Martin Angel.

Ron:

We get

Debra:

people out of Afghanistan.

Ron:

And we, we've had, uh, former Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders.

Ron:

We've had, uh, former Israeli defense soldiers and just on and on.

Ron:

I mean, we've had just, a lot of great guests and, She has, uh, learned to be a great interviewer and, and of course the, uh, saying a show about something is obviously to counter Seinfeld, the show about nothing.

Ron:

Yeah.

Jaclyn:

Right, right.

Jaclyn:

. Okay.

Debra:

And, and you know, Jaclyn, it was so great meeting you and Geoffrey at Content Film Festival in Weatherford, Texas.

Debra:

It is.

Debra:

And I just so enjoyed talking to you and learning more about what you do.

Debra:

And, and I, I just kind of related to you and thank you so much for having

Debra:

us Splatcast.

Debra:

I, I've been looking forward to it.

Debra:

And I, I really appreciated your, insight into my script.

Debra:

And, uh, I just, The eternal aspect of what we were doing here today and in everything we do in the Faith Based Films is so precious and vital.

Debra:

And I just, I love your heart for that, that you want, um, what you're doing to be, honoring to God.

Debra:

I love Ron's heart for what he wants to do.

Debra:

He wants it to be honoring to God.

Debra:

Everything that Ron has done in the past several years.

Debra:

Jaclyn has been a ministry, unpaid ministries.

Jaclyn:

Mm-hmm.

Debra:

And I'm talking 15 years he's been doing this for the Lord.

Debra:

Out of his love for the Lord, he has a, basically, six to eight thousand, people following on his Facebook, page.

Debra:

And it's basically a church without walls.

Debra:

And so we call it, we lovingly call it the Fields of Grace Church Without Walls.

Debra:

And he has friends on there, and now we have friends on there.

Debra:

They pray for us.

Debra:

We pray for them.

Debra:

We will go to the hospital and visit them.

Debra:

We'll go to their, their relative's funeral.

Debra:

We'll, he'll marry them.

Debra:

He can marry people.

Debra:

He's at the arbitrary, marry and bury right here.

Debra:

And, and we, and we love our people and they love us.

Debra:

And it's, it's a wonderful relationship.

Debra:

Uh, we get comments on this Fields of Grace Church Without Walls.

Debra:

And some of the comments are You know what, uh, I'm an atheist, agnostic, and, I'm not even a Christian, but you know, I love your speeches.

Debra:

Debra (2): Yeah.

Debra:

And I love what you're saying, and it gives me hope, and, you know, keep up the good work, SSShadow568, or

Jaclyn:

Right, right.

Debra:

mouth puts.

Debra:

And I'm like, wow, that is the most amazing thing.

Debra:

And basically, Ron has tithed his time, he's tithed his money, he's tithed his devotion to the Lord, and now we're doing that together.

Debra:

And we just feel so honored and blessed because we now have a podcast, and the podcast, as we already talked about, Ron and Deb unplugged to show about something.

Debra:

And really it should say a show about something faith based,

Ron:

or

Debra:

Israel, And so basically what we do with that is we want the faith based movies to get the promotion that they don't get.

Jaclyn:

Right.

Debra:

communities that we live in, we work with you guys.

Debra:

We work with you.

Debra:

You know, um, Christian Movies Central in Chicago, Illinois.

Debra:

Hey, Rich Gerbentry.

Debra:

we want to say hi, a shout out to them, to Rich and his family.

Debra:

And, um, we work with people who have podcasts.

Debra:

We just did, I don't know if you've ever heard of Lance Wall now.

Jaclyn:

Uh, nope.

Debra:

He's a pastor in the U. S. and he's also written some books and he has some amazing, prophecies about different things in the nations.

Debra:

He a book called the Seven Mountains of Influence.

Debra:

Right.

Debra:

Debra (2): Yeah.

Debra:

And we know what, we know what those are.

Debra:

And two of them are media and arts and entertainment.

Jaclyn:

right.

Debra:

so what we strive to do with our podcast in particular is build up the faith based community.

Debra:

And work with the producers, work with the directors, even on promoting.

Debra:

We promoted White Bird by the Irwin brothers.

Debra:

We promoted the best Christmas pageant ever by Dallas Jenkins.

Debra:

We promoted, uh, Unsung Hero for King and Country.

Ron:

Well, and, and these, I was going to jump in and say, these are, not just part of the podcast, this is separate doing these movie reviews.

Jaclyn:

Oh, wow.

Ron:

do.

Ron:

Yeah.

Ron:

We usually go set up at a movie theater.

Ron:

You're in front of the poster of

Jaclyn:

Oh, okay.

Ron:

it and encourage people to come and see it that all opening weekend, especially because we're all low

Ron:

out boobies live and die by opening weekends.

Ron:

Yeah,

Jaclyn:

actually get to interview them, right?

Jaclyn:

I saw you standing.

Jaclyn:

Yes, yes,

Ron:

we got the interview,

Jaclyn:

next to some very important people.

Debra:

yeah.

Ron:

And well, another great movie is Average Joe about Joe Kennedy, the, football coach up in Washington state who was fired because he just wasn't bothered a soul.

Ron:

And he just kneeled down on the 50 yard line after the game.

Ron:

Just thank God that there weren't any injuries.

Jaclyn:

Uh huh.

Ron:

And, uh, got to interview him, yeah, because, you know, they took it all the way to the Supreme Court and won.

Ron:

so we are all, you know, have more freedom here now.

Debra:

And honestly, Jaclyn, when we see these types of intersections of an average Joe guy, he feels like he is literally nobody.

Debra:

Debra (2): Yeah.

Debra:

He's like, I wasn't even a Christian in the Marines y'all.

Debra:

I am like nobody.

Ron:

He's one of my Marines though.

Ron:

Yeah.

Debra:

And he said, but then he stands up for prayer.

Debra:

Which allows the Supreme Court to set a precedent for prayer in public places, which allows the faith based community to continue to pray.

Debra:

Wow.

Jaclyn:

Yeah, that's amazing.

Jaclyn:

Yeah, you know, the courage of people is what really makes the

Jaclyn:

difference.

Jaclyn:

Actually, I want to back up for a second because you had mentioned a few minutes ago that you You know, even people that were not believers were following you and, uh, and appreciating.

Jaclyn:

I want to ask, what do you think makes the difference that, like, what is it that you do that would invite and allow people to join in even if they don't necessarily believe the

Debra:

Okay, I'm gonna take like a two minute description, and then I'm gonna let Ron answer that because he's the best at it.

Debra:

The first is a logline.

Debra:

You ready, Jaclyn?

Debra:

Geoff Foxworthy meets Dr. Phil.

Debra:

That's who Ron is.

Jaclyn:

nice.

Jaclyn:

Very nice.

Debra:

So he's a good

Debra:

old boy, he's a good old boy, but then he's, his heart is for the lost.

Debra:

And so, we want everyone in the entire universe to have a John 3.

Debra:

16 experience.

Debra:

We want them to experience the salvation of Jesus Christ in their lives, and the healing, and the restoration, and the hope.

Debra:

How he does that, Ron, will you tell them?

Debra:

Because I've been wondering myself, actually.

Ron:

Well, I tell you what, I, it, it takes me, I go back to my Marine Corps days, and, in the barracks, after boot camp, Well, you have a little more freedom, obviously, than you do at boot camp.

Ron:

And I'll never forget this one guy who was on duty and I was sharing the gospel with him.

Ron:

He, he was kind of a duty sergeant downstairs.

Ron:

And so he comes upstairs, just got to check things.

Ron:

We get to talking and, uh, I got to share the gospel with him.

Ron:

And he says, You know, I really appreciate that about you.

Ron:

He says, you could talk about other things and don't try to cram it down my throat.

Ron:

And, and I think people sense that, and I hope to have the same air about me that Jesus had, because I believe Jesus had the air and you find this, uh, with the, uh, woman that was caught in the act of adultery.

Ron:

he didn't condemn her, you know, He didn't condone her sin, but he ended up commissioning her, or three points at a preacher.

Ron:

He ended up commissioning her.

Ron:

And so I think that's the error that, and maybe it's just because all the times that Satan kicked my teeth down my throat, you know, man, I got no stones to throw, you know?

Ron:

And so so I'd love

Debra:

people.

Debra:

I admire that about Ron.

Debra:

and you're right, Jaclyn.

Debra:

Not many people can do this, because most people start with the Christian jargon, which is natural to us as Christians.

Debra:

Most people start with the terms that nobody can understand, like sanctification and justification and all these different things.

Debra:

And Okay, I'm an atheist.

Debra:

I don't know what the heck you're talking about.

Debra:

But what Ron says is, You know what?

Debra:

If you're having trouble in your job, or your marriage, or your family, you know what?

Debra:

I've been there.

Debra:

I know how hard that can

Debra:

be.

Debra:

And you know what?

Debra:

I got some help with that.

Debra:

This is what happened.

Debra:

It's so

Jaclyn:

Right.

Jaclyn:

Yes.

Ron:

start out, Nick and Pima said, I'm born to be a Christian.

Ron:

I need to be born again.

Debra:

That's actually a Billy Graham impersonation

Debra:

. Jaclyn: Oh, okay.

Debra:

Yeah.

Debra:

You know, I've thought of that too, where especially like when I'm writing, I always have to keep my audience in mind.

Debra:

Because like, there are certain phrases that we can use in the church that because we have context, it totally makes sense.

Debra:

And it's a beautiful phrase, but as soon as we take it out of context and share it with somebody who doesn't know it, it just sounds like crazy

Debra:

talk.

Debra:

Like, covered by the blood.

Debra:

If you don't know what that means, that sounds insane.

Debra:

Debra (2): Are you covered by the blood?

Debra:

Well, and the thing is, is that's where the Geoff Foxworthy connection comes in.

Debra:

Because Geoff Foxworthy's a comedian.

Debra:

And Ron, I'm here to tell you, is a comedian.

Debra:

And somehow or the other, he has made me into a comedian too.

Jaclyn:

yes.

Jaclyn:

You two are quite funny on stage.

Debra:

Thank you.

Debra:

I appreciate that.

Debra:

I work hard on this.

Debra:

But, but he doesn't.

Debra:

Because he just have a natural, And if you can make someone laugh, we've found,

Debra:

if you're trying to witness to somebody and you're, you're going to go in hard, but first, you can give them something to literally laugh their head off at.

Debra:

Then their defenses get let down a little bit.

Debra:

And they're like, they're good people.

Debra:

They're good people.

Debra:

I can listen to

Debra:

them.

Ron:

well, see, just like yesterday I had the opportunity to, uh, present just kind of, I guess I'd call it popcorn gospel presentation and, uh, ask this, uh, Oh, she's probably in her early twenties.

Ron:

I said, well, are you excited about Christmas?

Ron:

And she said, well, uh, yeah.

Ron:

So, well, not really.

Ron:

And I said, oh, really?

Ron:

I said, man, I said, it's still my favorite time of the year.

Ron:

I said, gosh, with all the music and the lights and just thinking about how Jesus came to earth, the God person would came to earth for me, you know, and just let that, you know, just, just plan that seat.

Ron:

She didn't say

Debra:

anything after that.

Jaclyn:

Mm hmm.

Debra:

but the thought, the thought process, what is that?

Debra:

We're not the Holy Spirit, we're just human beings.

Debra:

And so, sometimes we'll be doing an interview, this latest one that we did with Lance Wallnow, which is primarily an Eric Metaxas type person.

Jaclyn:

Okay.

Debra:

Um, things came out of my mouth that I had not rehearsed, Jaclyn.

Jaclyn:

Uh huh.

Debra:

And I believe it was the Holy Spirit talking.

Debra:

And then you wonder, what did I say and why did I say that?

Debra:

But somebody heard that and it started percolating in their mind, in their heart, in their soul.

Debra:

And I believe that's what faith based movies do.

Debra:

You know, you go to a faith based movie, the best Christmas pageant ever by Dallas Jenkins has had what they call in Hollywood the most successful holdover from the first week to the fourth week that they have ever experienced.

Debra:

Instead of going down, it is maintaining a percentage at the box office.

Debra:

And it is not a religious or a spiritual movie.

Debra:

I mean,

Debra:

it's got some spiritual to it, but it talks

Debra:

about the nativity, but not in, Hey, you better believe in Jesus or you're going to hell way.

Debra:

And Dallas and his wife, Amanda, were so taken with this book when they read it to their children, like 20 years ago, that they.

Debra:

made it their prayer request.

Debra:

He even set his timer on his phone to stop whatever he was doing on certain days and pray that he would be able to get the movie rights to this movie.

Debra:

Because he wanted it.

Debra:

It took them 15 years and they're at the top, right?

Debra:

But he wanted to make this movie.

Debra:

Why?

Debra:

Because the Holy Spirit put it on his heart to make this movie because it's going to reach somebody for Christ.

Jaclyn:

Right.

Jaclyn:

Yes.

Debra:

they're going to have a John 3 16 experience.

Jaclyn:

Yes.

Ron:

I want to, I want to get back to this thing, though, that you said we're not the Holy Spirit.

Ron:

I thought all wives were the Holy Spirit, the kind that pick their husbands.

Debra:

I'm just going to let that go

Jaclyn:

Yeah.

Jaclyn:

He said it.

Debra:

Either that, or I have to go find my, spatula.

Debra:

Sure, we have a spatula with you at all times.

Debra:

I think the Holy Spirit has a spatula for sure.

Jaclyn:

Uh huh.

Jaclyn:

Oh, you guys are funny.

Jaclyn:

Okay.

Jaclyn:

I'm looking forward to getting into more in our next interview, but as we close out this one, please share with our listeners where they can find you and your podcast.

Ron:

They can find us at, Ron and Deb Unplugged on Facebook.

Ron:

They can find us on YouTube at Ron and Deb Unplugged.

Ron:

Um.

Ron:

You know, my Morning Cups of Motivation are on several different, platforms.

Ron:

There's Ron Moore Morning Cup of Motivation on YouTube, uh, Facebook, Instagrammy.

Ron:

Oh, no, that was my grandma.

Ron:

Tick tock, tick tock.

Ron:

Tick tock, right.

Ron:

Tick tock or whatever.

Ron:

Yeah.

Ron:

It's on, uh, it's on all

Jaclyn:

All the things, all the

Ron:

Right.

Debra:

And if any girls want to contact me, I made it easy to contact me on Facebook.

Debra:

Debra, D E B R A, Schmitz.

Debra:

S C H M I T Z, more.

Debra:

Deborah Schmitz Moore.

Debra:

There's only one.

Debra:

I'll guarantee you that.

Ron:

That kind of surprises me that she said if any girls want to contact you, like, she doesn't want to contact me.

Ron:

Well, sometimes we just need to have girl talk,

Ron:

Debra (2): Jaclyn.

Jaclyn:

That's true.

Jaclyn:

It's

Jaclyn:

so true.

Jaclyn:

Yes.

Jaclyn:

Jaclyn:
